‘Curly’ from Coronation Street has a whole new appearance as he adopts a punk persona.

Although Kevin Kennedy’s most well-known character is Norman “Curly” Watts from the ITV soap opera Coronation Street, he has been gaining popularity on stage in more recent years.

One of the soap opera characters who sticks in your memory is “Curly” Watts.

The icon of Coronation Street first appeared on our screens in the 1980s and remained there for 20 years. Kevin Kennedy took over the position in 1983 and left in 2003.

The idea that more than 20 years have passed since we last saw the character on film is mind-boggling. But he recently revealed that he will be playing a new part in a punk rock musical.

It will also describe how the musical genre changed the world forever. Kevin intends to contribute his real-life experience to the program. He was a member of Paris Valentinos with Johnny Marr and Andy Rourke, who went on to join The Smiths.

He told WestEndBestFriend, “I’m very happy to be joining the Pretty Vacant cast,” expressing his delight. Punk rock revolutionized not just the music industry but also the fashion industry and other artistic fields when it first emerged in 1977. I saw it all happen. Together, let’s do it once more.”

Hits from legendary bands including The Sex Pistols, The Clash, Blondie, The Damned, Ramones, and Joy Division will be featured on Pretty Vacant. However, this is not the first time the actor will experience a major rock metamorphosis.

In 2009, Kevin performed as an elderly hippy named “Pop” in Queen and Ben Elton’s touring production of We Will Rock You. In 2010, he went on to join the West End cast of the musical.

When “RCI Anthem of the Seas,” the third-largest cruise ship in the world, was inaugurated in 2015, Kevin returned to the post. He has since repeatedly adopted the “Pop” identity, and in October 2023, he will give an incredible performance on Seacation cruises from Southampton in the United Kingdom.

Kevin, who was formerly Corrie’s paperboy, has dramatically changed into a rock star, hardly recognizable from his modest TV beginnings. He has also been extremely transparent in the past about his experience with addiction.

The late 1990s actor’s life was profoundly altered when he had a seizure and awoke in an ambulance. He told The Sun that his addiction was so bad that he felt relieved when his wife Claire left him because it allowed him to drink on his own without having to hide it.

In 2022, he acknowledged that May 1998 was his “wake-up call.” After spending a drunken vacation in Barbados with Claire, he made the decision to become sober.

Still, after just two days off the bottle, he went into a blackout while shopping in Manchester after drinking Diet Coke.

“I came to in the ambulance and it scared the hell out of me,” he recalled. I knew that if I continued, I would die, but emotionally, the addiction was persuading me that this was normal.”

After telling the show’s executives about his covert addiction, he was subsequently admitted to The Priory Rehab Clinic. Kevin now claims to have been sober for more than 20 years, saying that he feels the show “saved my life.”
