Everybody was where?
Although fans were sad, Paul was honored during his burial in Tuesday night’s (Wednesday, October 2) episode of Coronation Street.
A tearful Joseph went to Fiz’s before the event, and Billy admitted to Summer that he was anxious about botching the service.
Nevertheless, a number of people felt the burial was inadequate and unfitting for Paul’s memory.
Coronation Street: Paul Foreman’s death
The moving narrative that followed Paul’s struggle with his motor neurone disease diagnosis came to a conclusion with the funeral.
Bernie Winter and Summer were with Paul at the end of his life when his breathing grew labored and his health suddenly deteriorated.
After the two called for help, Paul was taken to the hospital and Bernie, Summer, and Gemma were informed that there was nothing more the physicians could do.
The trio hurried in to say their heartfelt goodbyes to Paul, but Billy was far away from the hospital trying to find his way back.
Paul drew his last breath, realizing it was too late. Bernie pretended to be alive after he passed away while Billy was on the phone delivering his farewell speech.
After weeks of discussions about the kind of funeral the family desired, Bernie organized a church ceremony followed by a rave a few days later.
Coronation Street: Paul’s funeral
When Paul’s father Denny Foreman, who is now estranged from him, showed up intoxicated, the funeral on Coronation Street took a bad turn in the episode.
When Bernie realized, he became enraged and informed Billy that Paul had passed away before he could deliver his last word.
“I expressed my love for him to him,” Bernie cut Billy off, saying, “He was already dead, Billy!”
Though it was too late, the regret was felt right away. Billy showed up at Paul’s wake inebriated.
In response to the fundraiser for Bethany Platt’s medical expenses, Bernie even made headlines.
Fan reaction
Fans claimed the funeral lacked guests and was not sentimental enough, despite the fact that it was undoubtedly dramatic.
Could we perhaps create a funeral episode where the funeral is the main topic without overpowering it with needless drama? said one X user. Another person said, “Why do they always have to spoil it? Without revealing that surprise, the funeral surely had enough drama already.
“I know extras are paid to literally just fill in the numbers but it’s so funny to see the cast crying and holding each other and this random group of unknown faces sat there,” remarked a third person regarding the lack of attendance.
“Coronation Street Paul was so loved, yet there was hardly anyone at his funeral?” inquired a fourth person. “Can’t believe they didn’t fill the church for poor Apollo’s funeral,” a fifth person said.
