Star of Coronation Street William ‘Bill’ Roache has a well-known son who has established himself in Hollywood, starring in several successful motion pictures.
Hollywood celebrity and Coronation Street icon William “Bill” Roache has a son who is well-known.
Bill has established a prosperous career for himself in television, but his son Linus has elevated it even further. While his father was becoming recognized for his performance of Ken Barlow in Corrie, earning him the title of longest-serving surviving actor in a TV series, Linus was landing prominent roles in films such as Batman Begins.
Given that Linus was born in 1964 to Bill and his actress wife Anna Cropper, it should come as no surprise that he followed in his parents’ footsteps and became an actor.
After honing his craft at the Central School of Speech and Drama, the celebrity made his TV debut in Corrie, where he played his father’s son Peter Barlow.
For two years, Linus played this part, but his real goal was to get into Hollywood. In 2002, he was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Miniseries or TV Film for his portrayal of Robert F. Kennedy in the film RFK.
In addition, he was nominated for a BAFTA Scotland Award for his performance as John McCarthy in the 2003 film Blind Flight.
In 2002, Linus tied the knot with fellow actor Rosalind Bennett in a stunning wedding that took place in the Malvern Hills of Worcestershire. It’s interesting to remember that Rosalind played Tina Wagstaffe during her time on Corrie in 1986.
In fact, very few Roache relatives have avoided making an appearance on Coronation Street. In 1962, Linus’ mother Anna made multiple appearances on the soap opera, and in 2010 and 2011, his half-brother James played the long-lost grandson of James Cunningham Ken.
Unbelievably, their real-life father Bill portrayed James’ granddad in the show, while James’ brother Linus played his father Laurence. James even performed as William, his own father, in a Corrie dramatization called The Road to Coronation Street.
With Sara McEwan Mottram, his second wife, Bill had a son named James. During her career, Sara appeared in eight episodes of Corrie as both Judge Alderman and a receptionist. The couple also had a second daughter, Edwina, who tragically died at the age of eighteen months, and a daughter named Verity.
