BBC EastEnders extra Tracey’s life away from Walford as she makes surprise admission

Jane Slaughter, who has been playing the extra since 1985, made a rare disclosure about her role in EastEnders’ Tracey that fans won’t be aware of.

In a charming behind-the-scenes video, viewers of EastEnders were given a glimpse into the life of Jane Slaughter, who plays adored extra Tracey.

The 63-year-old actress has been a mainstay on the BBC One soap opera since its debut in 1985, clocking in at over 40 years.

On Instagram, EastEnders shared a “day in the life” video featuring Jane as a special gift for their followers. “Jane Slaughter, also known as ‘Tracey from EastEnders,’ has been with us since the very first episode in 1985!” said the caption, which honored Jane’s long-standing role. As she and Adam Woodyatt took a trip down memory lane, we enjoyed following her around for this “Day in the Life” and listening in. We wish you the same pleasure… #EastEnders.

“Hello everyone, my name is Jane Slaughter, and I have been playing Tracey in EastEnders for forty years,” Jane says at the beginning of the clip. And you can usually find me here [Queen Vic]. “Greetings from a day in my life!”

“So it’s nine in the morning, sometimes I’m here earliest at quarter to eight,” the Manchester Evening News writes as Jane narrates as she gets ready for a day full of filming.

She goes on to describe her daily routine: “I get in, have coffee, and then I find out what the schedule is. After that, I’ll come on, have a block, see where I should position myself, where the director wants me to position me, who I have to serve, where I have to go, and we can film a lot of scenes in one day all in here.”

“Tracey has always worked at Queen Vic. The only other two places she has worked are the market, where she was fired, and The Albert, where she worked more recently, and the fish and chip shop before that! Thus, it’s true that she doesn’t go out much.

Jane then discloses that she is leaving to get her hair styled for the movie and dressed. “I know you Jane as we like to run!” says Heather Peace, who plays Eve Unwin, when Jane runs into her while getting ready. Heather, however, seizes the opportunity to question Jane about her character’s relationship with Phil Mitchell.

“I couldn’t possibly tell you that Eve, I could not, we don’t want to go there!” is the actress’s amusing response. Jane hints, “I think we should cut!” in spite of Heather’s constant requests for sensual information.

Fans may be surprised by Jane’s revelation later in the behind-the-scenes video: “Tracey has a son… some of you may remember some of you may not know!”

Jane introduces fans to some of the extras and backstage workers when they see her on set later in the video in her role as Tracey. The video ends with Jane and Adam Woodyatt, who has played Ian Beale since 1985, reflecting on the early days of the program in a sentimental discussion.

In the comments area, Jane’s co-stars quickly showed their appreciation. “My fave” with a heart emoji was the comment made by Danny Dyer, who is well-known for playing Mick Carter.

The actress who plays Linda Carter, Kellie Bright, posted: “I love you @jane.slaughterofficial” with heart emojis, while Emma Barton, who plays Honey Mitchell on-screen, added: “Adore” with loves as well.
