Coronation Street fans left ‘fuming’ as ITV pull episode from schedule once again

Coronation Street has been removed from ITV schedules once again, leaving viewers of the ITV soap ‘fuming’ as the major schedule shake-up was announced.

Coronation Street viewers were left completely frustrated upon discovering that there won’t be a visit to the ITV cobblestones.

Soap fans anticipate their dose every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for a full hour on ITV1, with the option to catch up from early morning on ITVX to keep up with all the drama unfolding on the cobbles.

Soap fans anticipate their dose every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for a full hour on ITV1, with the option to catch up from early morning on ITVX to keep up with all the drama unfolding on the cobbles.

However, devoted soap fans were left disappointed on Friday (21st February) when they realized that Corrie had been pulled from the TV schedules yet again. No need to worry, though—Emmerdale is still airing but at the earlier time of 7:00–7:30 pm, before ITV shifts focus to live coverage of the UEFA Women’s Nations League.

Sports enthusiasts are in for a thrill as England takes on Portugal, lighting up screens with a 7:45 pm kick-off. Frustrated viewers have flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice their frustrations.

One frustrated viewer wrote: “FFS, does that mean Coronation Street isn’t on?” while another complained: “They’ve dropped Coronation Street for this!” And this isn’t the first time Corrie fans have had their soap fix disrupted by a scheduling shake-up, following a recent outcry when their beloved Friday night episode was replaced by a football clash between Manchester United and Leicester City in the FA Cup.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that both Coronation Street and Emmerdale will undergo a major schedule shake-up next year. At present, Emmerdale airs every evening at 7:30 pm on ITV with a half-hour episode, plus a special hour-long installment every Thursday, according to the Mirror.

Meanwhile, Corrie viewers currently get their hour-long dose of the iconic cobbles on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8 pm. However, it has been confirmed that in 2026, a new soap ‘power hour’ will be introduced, with Emmerdale airing daily at 8 pm for 30 minutes, followed by Coronation Street at 8:30 pm, also for half an hour.

This means fans can enjoy the drama from the cobbles every weekday. However, despite the extra days, the shorter episodes will result in a total of five hours per week instead of the six they’re used to.

Recently, the soap has welcomed a major comeback as Julie Carp, played by actress Katy Cavanagh, has returned. Julie’s return was confirmed weeks ago, with her storyline expected to tie into her sister Eileen Grimshaw’s (Sue Cleaver) exit from the show.
