The actress has revealed her next career step after announcing her departure from the BBC soap earlier this month, following an 11-year return to the role.
EastEnders icon Natalie Cassidy has shared her future plans after announcing her decision to leave the famous BBC soap. The 41-year-old actress, who returned to portray Sonia Fowler 11 years ago, feels it’s time to say goodbye to the role she first took on in 1993, after previously leaving in 2007 to pursue “other things.”
As her exit approaches later this year, Natalie has revealed her desire to explore more presenting opportunities. Fresh off hosting What’s The Big Deal? for Channel 4, she opened up about her aspirations on the Monday Mile podcast, hosted by Olympic snowboarder Aimee Fuller.
She admitted, “I love acting, but I really enjoy just being myself, probably even more than acting. I did Motherland not long ago, which was amazing, and I love comedy, so I’d like to do more of that in the future.”
But there’s more — she added, “I really enjoy being myself, and I did this show with Channel 4 called What’s The Big Deal?, which is a consumer show. You know those times when you wake up in the middle of the night and end up buying a load of nonsense? A lot of people do that,” as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
“We examined products like barefoot trainers, vegetable choppers, LED face masks — all the things people think, ‘Oh, there’s some hype around this,’ and end up buying. The show features families, in a Gogglebox style, testing out the products, and then I dive into the science behind them.”
Natalie shared that her upcoming show will have viewers determining whether the hyped products are truly worth their investment and if they live up to their claims. She’s optimistic that the show will resonate with audiences.
She explained, “It’s a lot of fun. Everyone I’ve spoken to has said, ‘Oh, I’d love to know more about that,’ so fingers crossed it does well. But it’s a fun consumer show.”
What’s The Big Deal? is a four-episode series where Natalie will delve into products like ice baths, pizza ovens, and teeth whiteners, with six families giving them a test run before the experts weigh in. Reflecting on the upcoming series, Natalie said, “I’m excited to ask the questions we all want answers to about these must-have products.”
As a busy mum, she admitted, “Like everyone else, I love trying the latest trends, but what I really want to know is which ones truly live up to the hype and which offer the best value.” The show is set to air in early March.
