Coronation Street fans are certain they’ve uncovered the true culprit behind the fire on the cobbles.
Coronation Street fans think they’ve identified the real arsonist on the cobbles.
Earlier this week, viewers watched as a devastating fire tore through the Platt family home, leaving several characters trapped inside.
Thankfully, most of the characters were able to escape without injury, but Max Turner was caught in the explosion and rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The plot has taken a dramatic turn as it was revealed that the fire was a deliberate act of arson. In Wednesday’s episode, it was revealed that Max had thankfully woken up from his coma, but more trouble awaited the Platt family as David was arrested for the fire, despite firmly denying any involvement.
Leanne Battersby, who was drunk during the fire and has no memory of the events, was also taken to the police station for questioning. Meanwhile, Abi Webster, who has been struggling with PTSD, became a suspect earlier this week after assaulting Toyah Battersby before the fire, according to Lancs Live.

Despite three suspects, soap fans are convinced they’ve figured out the real culprit behind the fire—and it has nothing to do with David, Leanne, or Abi. With Max recovering from unconsciousness, fans on Twitter (now X) are speculating that he could be the one who started the fire.
Theories are swirling as fans discuss the possibilities, with one user tweeting: “Max started the fire. #Corrie.” Another agreed, writing: “Now thinking it was Max who started the fire. #Corrie.” A third posted: “Any chance Max started the fire #corrie,” while yet another viewer suggested: “Max clearly started the fire #Corrie.”
This rising suspicion follows actor Paddy Bever’s announcement that he’s leaving the popular ITV soap after portraying Max. With his final scenes already filmed, could it be that his character is responsible for the fire?
In an interview with The Mirror, Paddy discussed his decision to leave the show: “After much reflection and an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max and Coronation Street to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way.”

The emerging talent, who won the Rising Star award at the 2022 National Television Awards, shared his sincere gratitude to the show’s writers for giving him the opportunity to shape Max’s storyline on-screen after taking over from actor Harry McDermott in 2021.
Reflecting on his time with the show, he said: “It’s been an incredible privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a cherished and iconic series,” and while he’s excited for what’s ahead, those memorable moments on set will always have a special place in his heart.
