Coronation Street legend exits ITV soap after 11 years as string of stars leave

Coronation Street viewers saw a beloved character bid farewell to Weatherfield in the latest episode, as she informed her family that she had secured a new job in London.

Another Coronation Street favorite has departed Weatherfield.

ITV soap fans saw Yasmeen Nazir say goodbye to the cobbles after 11 years in Monday night’s (March 10) episode. It had been previously revealed that actress Shelley King would be exiting Corrie this year after more than a decade in the role.

Shelley, who made her Coronation Street debut in 2014, is among several stars rumored or confirmed to be leaving the soap. Others include Colson Smith (Craig Tinker), Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw), and Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley).

During her time as Yasmeen, she played a key role in some of Corrie’s most gripping storylines, including her harrowing abuse at the hands of Geoff Metcalfe. This week, she bid farewell to Weatherfield, heading to London in the soap’s latest episode.

Yasmeen sat down with her granddaughter Alya at the Rovers to share the news that she had secured a job at a charity. “I got a call from the charity, someone dropped out, and they want me to start right away,” she explained.

The Speed Daal owner expressed concerns, saying, “I can’t just leave, and I don’t have a place to stay there.” However, Alya (Sair Khan) reassured her, offering that she could stay with her grandson Zeedan until she settled in, and that she would take care of the restaurant until Yasmeen’s share was sold.

After packing, Yasmeen returned to the Rovers to update Alya, revealing that she had successfully sold her share of Speed Daal to Leanne Battersby. Alya responded with a hint of confusion, saying, “Leanne?” to which her new business partner replied with a beaming smile, “Hiya, partner!”

Later at the restaurant, Yasmeen said an emotional goodbye to her friends, telling them, “I’m going to miss you all,” and adding, “You’ve been my true friends.”

Alya then helped her to the car for their final farewell, where Yasmeen asked, “Will you please look after my plants until I can get my own place and move everything down?” She then remembered her cherished chickens, with Alya reassuring her that she would take care of them.

“We’ve had some tough times on this street,” Yasmeen acknowledged, to which Alya responded, “Dad passing, Grandad leaving, all that stuff with Zeedan.” Yasmeen added, “And Geoff,” and Alya replied, “We made it through all of that.”

Yasmeen said, “We got through it together, you’ve always been my rock. Are you sure you’re OK with me selling my share to Leanne?” Before finishing with, “It’s time to go, be good. I love you.”

A source had previously told The Sun about Shelley’s departure: “This will be another loss for fans, as Yasmeen is such a beloved character and integral to Corrie. She’s been involved in major storylines since joining in 2014, and her absence will be felt by the cast and crew. It’s understood she is leaving to pursue other opportunities.”

Yasmeen made her debut on Coronation Street alongside her first husband Sharif, their son Kal, and their two grandchildren. Tragedy struck when Kal died in a fire, and her marriage to Sharif ended after his affair was revealed.

She later married Geoff Metcalfe in 2019, but their relationship became toxic due to his constant abuse. In the end, Yasmeen stabbed him in the neck, leading to charges of attempted murder, although she was ultimately acquitted.
