In last night’s EastEnders (Tuesday, February 18), Reiss Colwell made his dramatic return to Walford and crashed his car into The Vic’s barrel store. But the big question remains: is he dead?
After the crash, Reiss seemed to be in a bad state, lying unconscious in the driver’s seat as the Queen Vic exploded. Could this be his punishment for his actions, or is there more to the story? Here are the key clues.
Reiss and the Explosion at The Queen Vic
Reiss was seen lurking around Walford before sneaking into Sonia’s house to leave her a card. Bianca caught him and attempted to call the police to report the killer. Reiss then asked Bianca to inform Sonia about his presence and the meaning of the card, before violently tossing her phone and fleeing.
He jumped into his car and sped off, ultimately crashing into The Vic’s barrel store. George arrived on the scene to check on Reiss but had to retreat as the pub exploded shortly after.
Is Reiss Dead?
While Reiss’ death hasn’t been officially confirmed, there are several signs pointing to his demise.
For one, multiple characters are set to die for the soap’s 40th anniversary, and with Reiss’ storyline being a central focus this week, it’s not out of the question that he could be one of the victims.
The explosion’s intensity also raises doubts about his survival. Reiss was right where the fire began, and given the severity of the crash, it seems unlikely anyone could escape unscathed.
Finally, actor Jonny Freeman, who plays Reiss, was seen celebrating his exit from the soap during a leaving party last month. This suggests he filmed his final scenes back in January, with those episodes likely airing around now—meaning his departure is imminent.
