Coronation Street: Izzy is a ‘pointless character,’ fans complain

What has Izzy been pursuing?

Despite Izzy Armstrong making a rare appearance on Coronation Street, viewers have expressed disapproval at the character’s ongoing waste.

Izzy made her Weatherfield debut in 2010 as Kirk Sutherland’s new love interest. As the show’s first regular disabled character in more than 50 years, Izzy represented a significant advancement in diversity and inclusivity.

She went on to become a Corrie institution after that.

Where’s Izzy?

Storylines for Izzy have been sparse since COVID, though, as actor Cherylee Houston took a break from the Cobbles to protect herself during the pandemic. Since then, Izzy has made a comeback to Corrie, but in a somewhat smaller and less noticeable capacity than before.

Izzy made a comeback to the soap opera last night, Thursday, July 31, as a part of Beth Tinker’s continued plan to use Underworld to produce and market knockoff products. In the episode from last night, Beth and Betsy made an effort to enlist Izzy in their dubious scheme.

Izzy’s return was welcome, but many fans were left wanting more.

Coronation Street fans complain about ‘pointless’ Izzy scene

Disappointed Coronation Street viewers discussed Izzy’s most recent moment or scenes in writing on X, and many of them weren’t happy.

“Izzy is the most mindless character,” an observer observed.

Another pondered, “Ah the lesser spotted Izzy spotted for her monthly lines.”

“Izzy has appeared twice in one month,” a third, startled viewer exclaimed.

Over the years, Corrie has had some outstanding performers and characters. Up there are Paul and the actor portraying him without a doubt. However, why must the majority of disabled characters be eliminated, or in Izzy’s case, be underutilized? another, pointing out that Izzy hasn’t been posting many stories lately.

Do you think we’ll be seeing more of Izzy?
