Following Joel Deering’s acceptance of medicines meant to put pregnant Lauren Bolton into premature labor in Friday night’s episode, viewers of Coronation Street have argued that Joel has hit a “new low.” She would then lose the child as a result of this.

Joel was shocked to discover that Dee-Dee had intercepted the parcel, which he had delivered under a false name, in scenes that aired last night (Wednesday, July 31). He told her that “E. Smith” was a customer in an abusive relationship in order to get out of the situation by lying, and then he went to meet Lauren with the drugs.

After speaking with Lauren, he opened the package to find a packet of tablets that were meant to cause her to go into premature labor and lose the baby. Joel sighed with relief, the drugs in hand, his strategy in mind.

Fans of the soap opera expressed their opinions about Joel’s most recent action on social media on X as the episode aired.

One horrified admirer said, “Joel is stepping to a new low by wanting to induce premature labor for Lauren.”

Joel is now going to drug a pregnant Lauren, just when I thought he couldn’t possibly go much lower. Another said, “He needs to be caught ASAP.”

Referring to a previously leaked spoiler that shows Lauren will go into early labor in upcoming scenes, a third fan remarked, “Assuming this is why Lauren suddenly goes into pre-mature labor a full 4 months early sadly.”

“One doubtful fan wrote, ‘Surely Joel would not have been able to obtain drugs that would cause harm to an unborn baby.”

Joel appears to be moving forward with his plan, though, as he has managed to do so. What implications does this have for Lauren’s child?
