Fans of EastEnders have pleaded with the soap opera’s executives for Shirley Carter’s comeback in light of the current crisis.
Shirley, a soap opera legend, was last seen in 2022. However, the trial of his son Dean Wicks is currently underway in Walford.
Fans are even threatening to “riot” if his mother doesn’t make an appearance, claiming that this is the perfect time for her to return.

Dean was put on trial this week after The Six set him up for Keanu Taylor’s murder. As fans will remember, after Keanu tried to assassinate Sharon Watts, it was Linda Carter who killed him.
In the end, the women set Dean up, but this week, in court, the villain made an unexpected admission.
EastEnders Dean makes bombshell confession
In an attempt to avoid being executed for a crime he did not commit, Dean eventually confessed to raping Linda after being called to testify.
Dean stated in court, “I denied it for years, and it’s driven her nuts,” alleging Linda was setting him up for murder in order to exact revenge for him raping her. However, he went on, “I raped her, send me down for that!” and that is what this is all about.
EastEnders fans ‘will riot’ if Shirley doesn’t return
In the midst of all the drama unfolding in court right now, EastEnders viewers are dying for Dean’s mother Shirley to return.
Someone posted on X and said, “We’re about to start tonight’s #Eastenders.” I shall riot if I do not see Miss Shirley Carter. Another wrote: “Wishing for Janine or Shirley to come back!”
“I really hope Shirley and Mick turn up at court,” a third person commented. Dean will stop talking after that. “Dean must be found guilty and Shirley must return for this week to end as strong as it began—the entire plot is epic,” a fourth commenter added.
When did Shirley leave Walford?
Shortly after Christmas 2022, when Mick Carter vanished, Shirley Carter departed the Square. It was implied that Linda Henry, who played Shirley, was simply taking a “extended break” from the soap opera.
“Linda Henry will be returning to EastEnders,” a representative said when she left, according to Digital Spy.
