Kym Marsh was a guest on Wednesday’s BBC Breakfast, where she discussed the baby loss certificate scheme following the heartbreaking loss of her baby boy Archie in 2009.
Kym Marsh revealed that she was ‘very emotional’ during her appearance on Wednesday’s BBC Breakfast while discussing the baby loss certificate scheme.
The 48-year-old former Coronation Street star tragically lost her baby boy Archie in 2009, just 18 weeks after his premature birth.
This week marks Baby Loss Awareness Week, and it was recently revealed that parents who have faced the loss of a baby early in pregnancy can now apply to have their child’s life officially recognized, no matter how much time has passed.
The Government has announced an extension of the baby loss certificate scheme, which was launched in February for those who had experienced a loss since September 2018. There will now be no time limit for this initiative, allowing any parent who has experienced a loss before 24 weeks to obtain a certificate. For losses that occurred before October 1992, the limit extends to 28 weeks.
During her appearance on Wednesday’s BBC Breakfast to discuss updates to the baby loss certificate scheme and commemorate Baby Loss Awareness Week, Kym expressed, “I’m feeling very emotional this morning, so I apologize if I get upset!”
“These certificates hold immense significance because, as we’ve heard, they transform your baby from just a statistic. My Archie was here; I gave birth to him, I held him, and we had a funeral. He mattered—he mattered to all of us.
“It was absolutely heartbreaking for us to have nothing that acknowledged his existence because he was a little person, and he was our little person.”
Reflecting on the updates to the baby loss certificate scheme, Kym added: “We’re overjoyed; this is a monumental victory for all of us and a significant step in saying goodbye. It’s truly fantastic.”
Kym shared that she thinks about Archie every day and that he remains a part of her family’s life, stating, “We celebrate his birthday; we do that every single year.”
“Polly, who is now 13 and was born after we lost Archie, knows all about him. We celebrate him, talk about him, and include him in our Christmas celebrations. We remember him because he was our child, and he matters just as much as those who are lucky enough to be here.”
Kym added with emotion, “It’s crucial that we honor our children, and this certificate will help everyone do just that.”
