Actor Sam Aston of Coronation Street is most recognized for his role as Chesney Brown on the ITV soap opera, but in the 1990s, his sister also made an appearance on the cobbles.
Fans of Coronation Street were taken aback to learn that Sam Aston’s sister actually had a part in the ITV soap opera.
Sam Aston, who has been widely recognized since 2003 for his role as Chesney Brown, was just ten years old when he made his screen debut as the half-brother of Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) and son of Cilla Battersby-Brown (Wendi Peters).
Sam grew up on the show, as do many child actors, going through a variety of traumatic stories such as being held captive, getting dumped a lot, and ending up as a single father.
He has been struggling in the soap opera lately with the fallout from the death of his twin brother Paul Foreman (Peter Ash), who was married to Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell).
Sam has grown to be a favorite character among Corrie viewers over time. According to the Mirror, he even took up the Best Newcomer prize at the 2004 National Television Awards and the Best Dramatic Performance for a Young Actor award at the 2005 British Soap Awards.
Interestingly, because his sister Emily is also a soap opera star, it seems that soap opera fame runs in the family. She did, in fact, appear on Coronation Street in the early 1990s.
During 1996 and 1997, Emily portrayed Becky Palmer in 51 episodes of the ITV serial opera. She has since starred in several well-known programs, including Hollyoaks, This Is England ’88, and Doctors on the BBC.
The actress who just joined Coronation Street as Becky, the daughter of one of Des’ girlfriends, is actually Chesney’s real-life sister, which shocked viewers of the soap opera. A shocked spectator wrote on a Corrie fan page: “Wow! The actress who portrayed Becky, a girlfriend of Des’s, is actually Chesney’s (Sam Aston) biological sister.”
Someone another added, “They really spit on each other, don’t they?” Others agreed, with one fan noting similarities when it was brought up: “Now you said you can see it wow.” There were further echoes when a another fan said, “U can tell!” Another admirer, a fifth, noticed and remarked, “She so like him.”
Emily is not the only budding actress in Sam Aston’s family who has ties to talented people who were once on the Cobbles. In 2000, his brother Joseph made history by memorably filling the shoes of Tommy Duckworth, the grandson of Jack and Vera Duckworth.
In addition, Thomas, Sam’s other sibling, has credits on well-known TV shows like The Bill and Casualty.
Sam Aston talked this year about how his family’s acting career has helped him in the soap opera industry, particularly now that his character is shown as having five kids.
He revealed information to The Mirror and other media sources, saying, “I’ve always been used to the chaos because I grew up in a big family anyway.”
Aston went on to elaborate on his family dynamics, saying, “I have three brothers and five sisters. I’m accustomed to having a large number of people, kids, and other visitors in the house. Thus, it’s not as absurd as it seems. Not as crazy as it could be, in my opinion, when you first believe there are four newborns on the set.”
In his closing remarks, he discussed his personal parenting experiences, saying, “I think it’s harder when there’s newborns and we were brand new to it.” Perhaps I am a little more composed in that scenario because I am a father of two children myself.”
