Legend of Coronation Street Graeme Hawley, who portrayed antagonist John Stape, is about to return to the soap opera scene by joining the cast of another medical drama.
Watchers of Doctors are in for a treat next week when a popular character from Coronation Street returns to the BBC medical drama.
Graeme Hawley, most recognized for his spooky role as the evil John Stape on the cobbles from 2007 and 2011, will make an appearance on Doctors. Next week, he will be featured on television in an episode called Sucker Punch, where he will portray Jason Chapman.
The BBC has teased the upcoming episode with a brief synopsis: “Graham is out to cause trouble, Rosie puts her plan into action, and Luca is pushed to the limit. Michelle treats FME patient Erika and is concerned that she is hiding something.”
Soap fans will recall Graeme’s memorable role as John Stape, one of Weatherfield’s most notorious baddies. Initially introduced as a seemingly gentle teacher and a suitable partner for Fiz Brown, his character took a dark turn after embarking on an affair with his teenage student, Rosie Webster.
When his affair became public, John’s entire world fell apart, ultimately leading to his demise. According to the Liverpool Echo, he abducted Rosie and held her captive for five weeks before being apprehended in a desperate attempt to reclaim control.
The drama continued after his release from prison when, failing to find employment as a teacher, he took on the name of his former coworker Colin Fishwick.
The plot deepened drastically as John battled to maintain his double life after Colin came unexpectedly to the UK and died in front of John and Charlotte Hoyle. Fearing for his life, John covered up Colin’s body and then killed Charlotte when she started threatening him. Following a botched confession, he killed Colin’s mother, Joy Fishwick, as part of his ongoing criminal spree.
He attempted to escape when his crimes were discovered and abduct Rosie once more, but the whole ordeal ended in a deadly vehicle accident. John was able to admit the truth before having a heart attack and passing away. Hope Stape was their daughter. He was married to Fiz.
After leaving Coronation Street in 2011, actor Graeme has been in a number of television series. He made appearances in the following films: Red Rose as Dave Banister in 2022; Finding Alice as Graham in 2021; and Peaky Blinders as Niall Devlin in 2017.
Graeme has appeared in three episodes of Doctors between 2011 and 2015, portraying Jim Piper, Barry Partridge, and Tony McQuinn. This is not his first appearance on the show.
