A beloved Coronation Street star has decided to leave the cobbles following a dramatic few months on the soap.
After a turbulent few months, Dolly-Rose Campbell’s beloved character Gemma Winter from Coronation Street has bid farewell to the renowned cobbles.
With her colorful past and the task of parenting four energetic quadruplets, Gemma swiftly gained popularity among viewers after joining the soap opera in 2014.
The recent loss of Gemma’s twin brother Paul (played by Peter Ash), who was diagnosed with motor neuron disease (MND) last year and tragically died in September, has made her life on the streets anything but peaceful. Gemma has been affected by the loss and is struggling with her grief more than she admits.
Despite her husband Chesney’s (Sam Aston) worries that it could be too soon, Gemma returned to work at The Rovers Return in Monday’s episode (October 21). But Gemma had to take a break in the rear of the pub because the pressure was too much for her.
Her brother Kit Green (played by Jacob Roberts) provided her with solace by offering to let her stay at his friend’s property in the Lake District. Gemma made the decision to take a vacation from the cobbles, which will disappoint fans.
Following a difficult few months, Gemma is scheduled to leave Weatherfield after speaking with Chesney about the notion and getting his approval to go, according to the Liverpool Echo.
When word spread that Gemma would be temporarily leaving the cobbles, Coronation Street fans were devastated. On a Corrie Facebook fan page, a fan bemoaned, “She is playing her character so well and going through hell.”
“So I’m not surprised she is having time out she just needs time out and find herself again.” While a third fan was surprised by the abruptness of the break, another fan responded, saying, “Seems a bit sudden.”
Before her acting career took off, Dolly-Rose Campbell worked as a bartender, which helped her in the Rovers Return. Campbell has won over audiences’ hearts as Gemma.
“I’ve worked behind a bar in real life, it was before Coronation Street when I worked in radio,” Dolly once said, looking back on her history. I worked in bars and hospitality.
Shortly after trying out for the role of Gemma Winter, the actor shared a chance encounter in an interview: “I had an audition prior to the tour, but I wasn’t expecting anything.” “Imagine if you got a job on it,” my friend commented as we were strolling about, and I said it would never happen. I received a call a few days later confirming that I had the part.
