ITV Coronation Street star’s ‘lifesaver’ job after soap exit that ‘saved their bacon’

A beloved character from Coronation Street previously talked about a “lifesaver” profession that supported him through a trying time.

John Thomson, who played Jesse Chadwick on Coronation Street, has praised a change in job as a “lifesaver” that was essential during the pandemic.

The actor notably romanced Sue Cleaver’s character, Eileen Grimshaw, after making his debut on the cobbles in December 2008 and becoming a regular the following year.

However, Jesse said goodbye to the people who lived in Weatherfield in 2010. However, Jesse’s reappearance this month took an unexpected turn, leaving both fans and neighbors in disbelief when he attempted to resume a previous affair with Helen Worth’s character, Gail Platt.

Beyond Weatherfield, Thomson’s voice has been used to narrate shows like “Ultimate Police Interceptors” and “Bargain Loving Brits by the Sea.” He has also made waves in other TV blockbusters including “The Fast Show,” “Men Behaving Badly,” and “Cold Feet.”

However, it was during the 2020 lockdown that John told Express how switching to voiceover work had been his primary source of income during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He revealed: “I have a studio in my basement that has been a lifeline for me as a home-based worker. That’s what provided me the insight and saved my bacon.”

John went into further detail about his creative strategy, saying: “I converted the downstairs broom cupboard into a voice recording studio. obtained some good recording gear and microphones, downloaded software,” the Liverpool Echo says.

John revealed that one show “saved his bacon” as well. “Doing the narration for Ultimate Police Interceptors on Channel 5 has also been the job that saved my bacon,” he said. I wouldn’t have had any employment otherwise. For six months, nothing.

“I was a bit shell shocked when I first came in because I’d forgotten the speed of the turnaround so it was an absolute baptism of fire,” John said when talking about his return to Coronation Street. But I’ve been welcomed by everyone at the Platts. I simply feel safe and well-cared for.”

“Helen [Worth, who plays Gail] and I are absolutely thrilled to be working together, everyone’s good company and there’s always fun to be had on set with the Platts, which is great,” he continued.
