ITV Coronation Street star drops Gail Platt bombshell ahead of soap exit

John Thomson, a Coronation Street star, teased Gail Platt’s exit plot by discussing his return to the cobbles as Jesse Chadwick on This Morning.

On Friday’s This Morning, Coronation Street star John Thomson discussed his plans to reprise his role as Jesse Chadwick.

The 55-year-old actor hinted at Gail Platt’s impending departure when discussing his return to the cobbles following a 15-year absence. Actress Helen Worth is saying goodbye to the ITV soap opera after 50 years, and the character of Jesse has returned during the Gail’s leave plot.

Recently, after a family argument about Jesse—because Gail’s kids don’t trust him—Gail suffered a terrifying heart attack, sending shockwaves around Coronation Street.

On Friday’s This Morning, John excitedly disclosed the following when talking about future twists and turns: “Gail is departing, huh! When I see Gail in the hospital, she is in the process of having her second heart attack and is post-cardiac arrest. I am then permitted to state that Gail pops the question to me!

“Isn’t it a leap year, in my opinion? Gail asks me to marry her, but why? She’s extremely medicated, so I’m not sure if her motives are sincere, but I can’t say anymore.”

It occurs as Tina O’Brien’s character Sarah Platt, Gail’s daughter, believes Jesse stole money from her ex-boyfriend Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths). However, the Liverpool Echo reported that in a shocking turn of events, Sarah’s brother David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) was found to be the real culprit.

Actress Helen, 73, who played the character of Gail on Coronation Street, was announced earlier this year that she would be leaving the program after an incredible 50 years.

Although the specific plot point that would see Gail leave the soap opera is yet unknown, show executives have alluded to a very “emotional” departure that is appropriate for a character of her caliber. It’s anticipated that Helen’s last moments will premiere at the end of this year.

“This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world,” Helen said earlier this year, looking back on her choice to retire. I talked to the producers about my decision at the beginning of the year, and they were really understanding and kind.

“I have been really fortunate to work with amazing actors, directors, and a crew, and to consistently receive the most amazing screenplays. The last fifty years have gone by quickly, and I don’t think it has quite hit me that I’m leaving yet.”
