Corrie’s new boss on ‘devastating’ news that soap icon quit – and the rule for exit storyline

Kate Brooks, the new manager of Coronation Street, has spoken out about how she was “devastated” by a soap veteran who departed the ITV drama earlier this year.

The shocking departure of a soap icon from the ITV favorite has been revealed by Kate Brooks, the new head of Coronation Street.

The 73-year-old veteran actress Helen Worth has declared that June is the “perfect time” to leave the long-running serial drama. When Helen first appeared on television in 1974 as Gail Platt, she immediately established herself as a Weatherfield gem.

The soap opera mainstay finished filming earlier this month, and her abrupt exit is expected to rock Weatherfield’s holiday season. Fans are still in shock over the announcement, and Corrie’s new leader is no different.

In an interview with Plymouth Live and other media, Kate Brooks revealed what viewers may anticipate from the cobbles this Christmas, predicting a “very fun” and “really lively” season with a dash of shocking news.

According to Plymouth Live, Kate also alluded to a possible wedding between Gail Platt and Jesse Chadwick (played by John Thomson), although she would not reveal if Gail would actually go down the aisle. She teased, “Whether she goes through with that or not, I cannot tell anything.”

“I’m devastated that Gail is leaving,” the new gaffer added, admitting her sadness over Gail’s departure. It truly breaks my heart. What an icon she is. We’re talking about Gail here, but that word is used a lot! We’ve practically watched her grow up; she’s been a part of the street for fifty years.”

Details on Gail’s withdrawal from the street were disclosed by Kate Garraway, who emphasized that “it was really important to make sure her exit and departure felt really fitting and in keeping with who she is as a character.”

Helen Flanagan said, “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world,” in reference to her own June departure.

“I spoke to the producers at the beginning of the year and made the decision, and they were very understanding and kind,” she continued. I have been really fortunate to work with amazing performers, directors, and a crew, as well as to consistently receive the most amazing scripts.”
