Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has shared her hopes that her character, Cassie Plummer, will find happiness with her new love interest, Steve McDonald.
Coronation Street’s Claire Sweeney has teased the possibility of a wedding for her character, Cassie Plummer, and her new love interest, Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson).
Cassie arrived in Weatherfield in 2023 as the mother of local favorite Tyrone Hobbs (Alan Halsall).
After taking on the role of Ken Barlow’s (William Roache) carer and moving into his home, she secretly began lacing his tea with antihistamines to make him dependent on her. She also manipulated Ken financially, using his credit card for personal expenses and persuading him that he had made the purchases but forgotten.
However, when Ken discovered Cassie’s deception, he confronted her and threw her out. Soon after, Ken collapsed and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but fortunately, he survived.
Amid the drama, Cassie has unexpectedly developed real feelings for Steve, adding to the tension in the Barlow household. In upcoming episodes, Steve’s ex-wife, Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford), insists she wants to make peace and invites Cassie for lunch.
However, Tracy’s real motive becomes clear when she offers Cassie drugs and urges her to take them, plotting to derail her life. But will Cassie take the bait, or can she mend things with Steve? reports Lancs Live.
Claire Sweeney, 53, has just teased an exciting possibility that her Coronation Street character, Cassie, might be heading down the aisle with a lovestruck Steve.
In a conversation with the Daily Star and other media outlets, Claire couldn’t hide her excitement about the possible romance. She enthused, “I hope it lasts because he’s gorgeous, and there’s definitely something between them.”
The actress playfully recalled a recent exchange with her co-star: “I said to him the other day, ‘I’d love for us to get married.’ He replied, ‘Oh, not another wedding!’ I mean, I’m not married in real life, so it would be nice to have another one—at least on screen.”
Claire is thrilled at the idea of a wedding on the cobbles, adding, “I’ve had one wedding in Brookside, so it would be wonderful to have another in Corrie.”
Speaking about her on-set chemistry with Simon Gregson, Claire couldn’t help but gush: “I can’t tell you how much I love working with Si Gregson. He’s absolutely hilarious, a nonstop source of laughter, and a genuinely kind person.”
She went on to praise him further, saying, “Simon is an absolute joy to work with. It doesn’t even feel like work—he keeps me laughing. I adore him, and I’d love for their characters to end up together.”
Claire shared her thoughts on Cassie and Steve’s dynamic, saying, “Their scenes are incredibly fun. Cassie might be up to no good or having dark thoughts, but the moment he appears, she becomes like a giddy teenager. He completely disarms her, and it’s truly genuine.”
