ITV Coronation Street’s Julia Goulding ‘furious’ as she addresses latest exit

Coronation Street’s Julia Goulding has expressed her sadness over the most recent exit from the ITV cobbles.

Coronation Street’s very own Shona Platt, portrayed by Julia Goulding, has openly voiced her disappointment over the recent string of departures from the beloved ITV soap. Since taking on the role in 2016, Goulding has built strong bonds with many co-stars, now facing the reality of saying goodbye to several close friends this year.

The departures of Paddy Bever (Max Turner) and Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley) have particularly resonated with Julia. Reflecting on their exits, she shared: “Absolutely devastated. I adore Paddy, and it’s crazy to think I could actually be his mum.”

Expressing her admiration for Bever, she added: “He has an incredibly bright future, and I’d love to see him return at some point, but who knows where life will take him. It’s really sad to see him go.”

She was equally outspoken about Jordan’s exit, jokingly stating: “And Charlie—don’t even get me started. I’m fuming at her for leaving. I’m losing all my friends!”

However, it’s not all sadness on set. Julia is also thrilled about Farrel Hegarty joining the cast, a longtime friend of hers, bringing a touch of happiness amid the goodbyes, as reported by Leicestershire Live.

The newest addition to Weatherfield, Lou Michaelis—dubbed a “nightmare neighbour”—has swiftly settled in with the cast, as Julia Goulding shared with the Liverpool Echo.

“We’ve been friends for 20 years,” Goulding revealed. “It’s fantastic having her here. I haven’t had any scenes with her yet, but I did ask [show boss] Kate [Brooks] if that could happen at some point. She’s amazing and a perfect fit for Corrie.”

Julia Goulding remains a key player in Coronation Street, with her character Shona Platt caught in the midst of the Platt family’s ever-dramatic storyline. Tensions rise in the coming week as Max faces sentencing for causing the fire that put their family home in danger.

The drama escalates further when David Platt and Daisy become entangled in a hit-and-run disaster, leaving both of their lives hanging in the balance.

In an episode set to air next Wednesday (March 5), David (Jack P. Shepherd) drowns his worries in the Rovers Return, overwhelmed by the pressure of repaying notorious gangster Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor). Meanwhile, Daisy struggles as Daniel Osbourne questions the paternity of her child.

As tensions mount, David stumbles out of the pub just as Daisy makes a hurried exit, leading to both being struck by an oncoming vehicle and sustaining injuries.

Reflecting on filming these intense scenes, Julia shared the raw realities of bringing such moments to life: “There was a lot of blood. Jack was on the ground for a couple of days, and we were both covered in this thick, sticky, syrupy blood. I think we wore darker clothing to avoid any compliance issues.”

The Platt family finds themselves caught in yet another high-stakes ordeal, adding to the chaos following their previous brush with disaster in the fiery storyline.

Actress Julia expressed her enthusiasm for being part of such gripping storylines, saying: “We have an amazing team of actors and crew. One moment you’re deep in serious drama, and the next, you’re in fits of laughter as soon as the cameras stop rolling.”

While keeping future plot twists under wraps, Julia teased that turmoil could be on the way—especially with uncertainty looming over her on-screen partner’s fate after 25 years on the soap.

Dropping a cryptic hint, she shared: “David will either be dead or completely out of action. I can’t possibly reveal which. And with Max’s sentencing and everything going on, [Shona’s] busy putting out fires rather than being the fire.”

Coronation Street fans won’t want to miss the drama unfolding every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8pm on ITV, with episodes available to stream from 7am on ITVX.
