What Happened to Valentin on General Hospital

Valentin Cassadine has remained a complex figure on General Hospital since his introduction. James Patrick Stuart, well-known to soap fans as Will Cortlandt from All My Children, joined GH in July 2016. Over the years, Valentin appeared to reform, but his ties to Pikeman placed him in a difficult position, leading to his disappearance in July 2024. However, he made a brief return in December 2024 and again in March 2025.

Helena Cassadine regarded Valentin as the most dangerous member of the family and feared Mikkos Cassadine’s son. On Cassadine Island, Jason, Sam, Ava, and Nikolas encountered a fisherman named Theo, who soon revealed himself as Valentin. He forced Nikolas Cassadine to sign over the family fortune, and when he tried to shoot Ava, Nikolas intervened, resulting in him being shot and presumed dead. Later, Valentin also shot Kevin while he was protecting Laura.

Valentin eventually arrived in Port Charles, where he charmed Nina Reeves and issued a warning to Claudette, claiming she had taken something that belonged to him. He later confronted the Spencers at Wyndemere on Halloween, revealing that he had taken ownership of the castle and hoped for a chance at redemption.

While it was confirmed that Charlotte was Valentin’s daughter, it wasn’t until later that Lulu Spencer discovered she was the little girl’s biological mother—not Claudette. Helena had orchestrated the insemination using Valentin’s stolen sperm and Lulu’s stolen egg. Upon learning the truth, Valentin took the embryo and arranged for Claudette to serve as the surrogate. This revelation ignited a custody battle between Lulu and Valentin, who quickly wed Nina to provide Charlotte with a stable family. Lulu was outraged when the judge granted custody to Valentin and Nina, vowing to continue fighting for her daughter.

As Anna Devane pieced together memories of her past with Valentin from their time at the WSB, he admitted that her rejection of his romantic advances had motivated him to change his life. However, when Anna fell seriously ill, he stayed by her side, proving that his feelings for her had never truly faded. Anna’s relentless search for answers about their history created tension in his marriage, as Nina grew increasingly jealous of her.

In time, it was revealed that the woman trying to lure Valentin away from Nina was actually Anna’s twin sister, Alex. But by then, the damage had already been done. Valentin attempted to win Nina back by serenading her at the Nurses Ball, but it was his act of bravery—taking a bullet for her during a hostage situation—that finally rekindled their relationship. Unfortunately, his ties to the Chimera virus led to his arrest by the WSB, landing him in custody.

After being released, Valentin vowed to start fresh with Nina and agreed to share custody of Charlotte with Lulu, ensuring they could all be part of her life. However, Valentin still had secrets, including one he shared with Peter August. Valentin was aware that he was actually Henrik Faison’s son with Anna. When this truth came out, Faison’s murder of Nathan caused Nina to blame Valentin for being partially responsible for her brother’s death.

Since then, Valentin has been on a mission to win Nina back, which included discovering that the baby she thought she lost years ago was still alive and tracking down Sasha Gilmore to reunite them. This tactic worked wonders, and Nina was so overjoyed that she agreed to remarry Valentin. Unfortunately, Valentin and Sasha had been lying the whole time, using the situation as part of a scheme to win Nina’s love. During their wedding, Lulu blurted out the truth, with Sasha confirming that she was not Nina’s daughter. While Sasha took the blame, Nina still knew Valentin had been involved in the deception and began secretly plotting his downfall.

At their New Year’s Eve wedding, Valentin pushed Ava Jerome over the parapet, only for Nikolas to rescue her and crash the ceremony, revealing that Valentin wasn’t even a true Cassadine. Valentin was shocked to learn he was simply Helena’s son and devastated that Nina had set him up, losing both his love and his fortune. Valentin then turned his attention to acquiring shares of ELQ, offering to help Brook Lynn Ashton escape her sleazy manager in exchange for her part of the family business. He also invested in Deception and chose to step back from his ongoing custody battle with Lulu over Charlotte.

After taking control of ELQ, Valentin was met with disdain from the Quartermaines, but while out drinking with Brook Lynn, the two ended up in bed together. Valentin also joined forces with Anna to stop Alex, narrowly escaping her attempt to kill them. Together, they worked to bring an end to Peter’s reign of terror. Valentin got Peter to confess and exposed his crimes during Peter and Maxie’s wedding! Valentin was taken aback when Brook Lynn returned to Port Charles, claiming to be pregnant with their child and promising to do whatever it took to be there for their baby. However, Valentin didn’t realize that Brook Lynn was faking the pregnancy to regain control of ELQ for the family.

Valentin and Anna’s plan to get rid of Peter ran into trouble when Peter forced them to release him, threatening not to reveal the antidote to the poison he’d used on Harrison Chase.

Valentin then moved into the Quartermaine mansion with Charlotte to be close to Brook Lynn and their supposed baby. Eventually, Brook Lynn presented him with Bailey Louise Quartermaine, and Valentin immediately bonded with the baby, unaware that she was really Maxie’s daughter, Louise, whom Maxie was trying to keep hidden from Peter. As Valentin and Anna continued their search for the missing Peter, they grew closer and shared a kiss during an investigation in Crete. But things took a dangerous turn when Valentin was abducted and thrown into prison with Drew Cain. Victor Cassadine, who was working with Peter, claimed to be Valentin’s father, though Valentin wasn’t sure if he could believe it. During an escape attempt, Valentin was shot by Peter.

Anna stayed by Valentin’s side as he recovered and brought him back to Port Charles. Upon returning, Valentin grew suspicious of Brook Lynn and pressed her to tell the truth. He was devastated to discover that Bailey wasn’t his daughter, but rather Chase’s! Valentin eventually figured out that Bailey was actually Maxie and Peter’s daughter, Louise, but was unable to act on this knowledge because Victor had him kidnapped.

After Valentin was discovered in a dumpster, he was rushed to the hospital and soon regained consciousness from his drugged state. He was relieved to learn that Charlotte was safe, but grew suspicious of Victor, who claimed to have “rescued” her from her kidnapper. Valentin accepted Brook Lynn’s apology for deceiving him and praised her for protecting an innocent child. He then decided to leave town to clear his mind and didn’t return for months, this time turning up in French Polynesia with Jennifer Smith.

Valentin tried to seduce Jennifer in an attempt to take the Ice Princess from her, but their plans were interrupted by the WSB and Anna, forcing him to make a quick exit. Upon returning to Port Charles, Valentin reconnected with Anna, and they shared a passionate kiss. He became concerned about his investment in Deception when he saw photos of Sasha and her pills, but his main worry grew when Michael and Drew planned to merge ELQ with Aurora Media, which could push him out. Valentin approached Ned to team up against them, but Ned declined, preferring to strike a deal with the family on his own. In the end, Valentin managed to hold on to his position at ELQ.

Valentin and Anna went on a date to the drive-in, and as their relationship progressed, Anna began to suspect that Valentin was hiding something from her. It was later revealed that Victor was keeping Charlotte at boarding school, using her to manipulate Valentin into doing his bidding. When ordered to poison Laura, Valentin experienced a moment of conscience and stopped just in time. He confessed everything to Anna so she wouldn’t leave him, and she promised to help him rescue Charlotte. As their relationship grew stronger, Anna and Valentin made love. However, when Victor offered Valentin a chance to see Charlotte if he left immediately and alone, Valentin feared it might be a trap.

Fortunately, Valentin received help from Laura in defeating Victor’s guard, successfully bringing Charlotte back home. When Anna was framed for Lucy’s murder, Valentin teamed up with Sonny Corinthos to help her escape during a prison transport, whisking her away to a safe house where they could hide. As they traveled the world, staying one step ahead of the law, their bond deepened, and they eventually tracked down Lucy in France with the help of Anna’s old friend, Andre Maddox, and Valentin’s contact, Renee. However, Renee betrayed them, and Valentin and Anna, along with Lucy, faked their deaths to evade Victor’s men.

Valentin secretly met with Drew to enlist his help in stopping Victor. They coerced Deputy Mayor Eileen Ashby into assisting them by setting Victor up with a fake Ice Princess necklace to learn what he was really after. But Victor was onto them and discovered the location of their safe house. After forcing Valentin to hand over the real jewels, Victor punished his son by shooting Anna at point-blank range. Valentin was overjoyed when Anna survived surgery and later agreed to join a group heading to Greenland to put an end to Victor’s reign. Once there, Valentin sacrificed himself to be captured by the guards and taken into the bunker to confront his father. Victor, now considering Valentin no longer his son, decided to test a deadly pathogen and its antidote on him, ordering Liesl Obrecht to inject him. After suffering hallucinations of Helena, Valentin was rescued by Anna, who administered the antidote and saved his life.

After Victor’s death, Valentin returned to Port Charles with the others. Following the reading of his father’s will, he offered to accompany Laura on her trip to Chechnya in search of Nikolas. Valentin also continued to handle matters with Sonny regarding the Pikeman deal, concerned about an attempt on the mobster’s life. After leaving Laura and Kevin to investigate Cassadine Island, Valentin returned to Port Charles where Anna briefed him on a shooting at the Metro Court pool, raising suspicions about his involvement with Pikeman. When Anna’s house was torched, Dante discovered a hole in Valentin’s alibi, and Anna found incriminating evidence. Valentin later went to Nina to check the security footage after someone vandalized Anna’s suite, though he kept quiet about the fact that Charlotte was the one responsible.

Valentin tried to make amends by purchasing a new home for himself and Charlotte, hoping that Anna would move in with them eventually, but for now, he needed to focus on his daughter. Valentin was horrified when Anna accidentally shot an intruder in her new apartment, only to discover it was Charlotte. Thankfully, Charlotte survived, and Valentin explained to Anna what he knew about her actions, including how she had been manipulated by Victor from beyond the grave. Valentin was stunned when Charlotte insisted that Anna had shot her on purpose, and Anna later ended their relationship.

As 2024 began, Valentin sought to distract himself by buying The Invader and hiring Nina as the publisher after her ousting from Crimson. It was soon revealed that Valentin was involved in the Pikeman organization alongside Jack Brennan and had also tampered with Sonny’s bipolar medication to cause erratic behavior. Their plan was to frame Sonny for Jason’s murder, but the assassins they sent after Jason failed. Valentin answered his satellite phone, unaware that Anna was on the other end, calling from the assassin’s side to identify who would pick up. Valentin met with Brennan to report that the FBI had sent Jason to infiltrate Pikeman and assured him that he would have the charges against him dropped.

Valentin continued to pursue Anna as she began to reenter his life, confessing his love for her. When Charlotte returned home from school, she apologized to Anna for her previous behavior. But Valentin was stunned when Anna suddenly insisted he had to leave the country immediately, revealing that she had turned him into the FBI for being the head of Pikeman. He begged her to come with him, but she refused. When the authorities broke down his door, Valentin and Charlotte had vanished without a trace.

In December 2024, Lulu woke from her coma and was determined to find her daughter. Upon discovering that Charlotte was in Prague, she immediately flew there to reunite with her. However, she was shocked when Valentin interrupted their meeting. Lulu argued that a life on the run wasn’t sustainable, but Valentin countered, explaining that Charlotte had been shot in Port Charles. When Dante followed Lulu, Valentin realized they were in danger, and a sniper took a shot at them in a café. After narrowly escaping, Charlotte apologized for contacting her mother, but Valentin offered her the opportunity to return to Lulu. However, Charlotte chose to stay with Valentin, feeling he had no one else. A few weeks later, Valentin attempted to strangle Brennan, knowing he was the one who had sent the sniper after him, but Carly intervened, forcing him to flee once again.

In March 2025, Valentin regretted not allowing Charlotte to go with Lulu and, when Jason and Anna arrived, confessed that he had pretended to be Charlotte and texted Rocco so they could track their whereabouts. After Jason and Anna subdued the kill squad sent after them, Valentin insisted that they take Charlotte back to Port Charles. Anna pleaded with him to let her take him in and negotiate a deal, but Valentin argued that because he had tried to kill Brennan, the WSB was unlikely to spare him.

Stay tuned to General Hospital to find out if Valentin will ever resurface!
