Who Is Gloria on General Hospital?

Gloria Cerullo hasn’t been seen on General Hospital for quite some time, so some fans might be wondering about Lois’ mother. The character made occasional appearances in the mid-90s, portrayed by Ellen Travolta, who returned in November 2023 to reprise the role for the Quartermaine Thanksgiving celebration. She made another appearance in May 2024 and is set to return in March 2025.

Gloria initially came to Port Charles with her husband, Carmine Cerullo, to check on their daughter, Lois Cerullo. She wasn’t pleased to find Lois dating another musician, as Ned Quartermaine, who was performing as Eddie Maine, was involved. To win over Gloria, Ned invented a story about his family. Gloria and Lois also had a few disagreements over the wedding plans, particularly regarding the dress and venue—Gloria was insistent on a grand family affair with a priest.

Months later, after not hearing from Lois, Gloria returned to check on her. She was upset to find that Lois had given Ned another chance, especially after learning he had been married to Katherine Bell at the same time. When Lois’ ex-boyfriend, Danny, showed up hoping to win her back, Gloria stepped in and managed to get rid of him.

After Ned and Lois remarried, Gloria learned she was going to be a grandmother. When Lois experienced cramps, Gloria quickly rushed her daughter to the hospital, but it turned out to be false labor, and it wasn’t yet time to welcome Brook Lynn Quartermaine into the world.

In November 2023, Lois returned to Port Charles to check on Ned, who was suffering from amnesia and calling himself Eddie Maine again. She invited her mother, Gloria, to join the family for Thanksgiving, and Gloria was delighted to meet everyone but appeared distracted and concerned. When Lois inquired about it, Gloria revealed she had gotten into an argument with a woman at bingo who was connected to the Russian mob. Yuri overheard and offered to help, making a call, which led to Peter Petrov arriving at the mansion. After a bit of negotiation, things were smoothed over, and Gloria agreed to avoid bingo night at the woman’s church.

Gloria returned in May 2024 with her husband, Carmine, to attend Brook Lynn’s wedding to Harrison Chase. She caught up with Sonny and insisted he attend their Fourth of July party. Gloria was also thrilled to meet Blaze, as she was a big fan. Upon meeting Dex Heller, she immediately tried to set him up with Lois’ cousin.

In March 2025, Gloria arrived at the Quartermaines just in time to ease the tension between Brook Lynn and Lois, who were discussing the baby Brook Lynn gave up as a teenager. Gloria revealed she was the one who encouraged Lois to consult with Martin Grey for legal advice, which led Brook Lynn to realize her mother had been involved back then. Once alone, Lois argued that they needed to tell Brook Lynn the truth about Gio Palmieri being her son, but Gloria strongly believed that revealing the secret would only cause more pain for everyone involved.
