Coronation Street viewers are certain they’ve figured out who is targeting Chesney Brown, as he’s left fearing for his life following a hit-and-run incident in Monday night’s episode.
Coronation Street’s Chesney Brown finds himself entangled in a dangerous situation, with sharp-eyed viewers believing they’ve figured out who his mysterious foe is – surprisingly, someone from his own neighborhood.
The beloved character, played by Sam Aston, has had a rough time recently. Still mourning the tragic loss of his brother-in-law, Paul Foreman (Peter Ash), Chesney’s life on the cobbles has been anything but smooth.
Balancing fatherhood with five kids, Chesney has been running himself ragged, even picking up extra shifts at the newly reopened kebab shop. But this week, things took a darker turn in his story.
In Monday’s episode (November 25), chaos erupted when Chesney got into a heated confrontation over a parking space at Freshco, only to be outdone by a white van. Furious, he trapped the van in place with his car before heading off to his shop.
When Chesney returned, he was shocked to find his car damaged, with the same mysterious van speeding away from the scene, according to Plymouth Live. Back on the cobbles, the van reappeared, tearing down the street and causing several near-misses, including scraping Chesney’s car and almost hitting him.
Later, as Chesney nervously recounted the frightening events, his son Joseph overheard and became worried that the “van man” was after Chesney. Trying to calm his son, Chesney downplayed the incident, assuring him that he was safe.
Viewers are abuzz with excitement, speculating that this could be the start of an intense new storyline for Chesney. Corrie fans believe they’ve figured out who was behind the wheel of that van—and it’s a familiar soap character!
On a Corrie fan page, one detective-in-the-making asked, “I wonder who was driving the van?” The comments section quickly filled with theories, with many fans convinced that it’s none other than Chesney’s mum, Cilla Battersby-Brown (played by Wendi Peters), making a dramatic return. One fan even posted: “I bet it’s Cilla driving the van!”
Another fan eagerly replied, “I hope so, I’ve always wanted her back.” A third chimed in, “It’s got to be his mum, Cilla.” One more speculated, “Maybe she’s out for revenge on Chesney and blames him for Les’ death?” While another fan couldn’t hide their excitement, exclaiming, “Yes! Bring her back!”
Cilla first made her dramatic entrance on the cobbles in 2003 as Les Battersby’s (Bruce Jones) partner and quickly became a fan favourite. Over the years, she’s been involved in some unforgettable Corrie moments, including the hilarious scene when she and Les came crashing through the ceiling after Schmeichel’s bath mishap.
The Street bid an emotional goodbye to Cilla in 2007, but Wendi Peters made a brief return for a cameo in Coronation Street: Out of Africa in 2008. Cilla made another short return in 2014, but since then, the outspoken Weatherfield icon has been missing from the spotlight.
